Disc Stack Separators

Disc Stack Separators

Our Disc stack separators, are highly efficient liquid-liquid separation devices that utilize centrifugal force to separate two immiscible liquids with different densities. The main components of a disc stack separator include a rotating bowl, a stack of closely spaced conical discs, a feed tube, and separate outlets for the light and heavy phases.

How It Works:

    1. The mixture of two immiscible liquids is fed into the rotating bowl through the feed tube.
    2. The high-speed rotation of the bowl generates powerful centrifugal forces, causing the liquids to separate based on their density differences.
    3. The disc stack, consisting of numerous closely spaced conical discs, provides a large surface area for the liquids to settle and separate.
    4. The lighter liquid phase moves towards the centre of the bowl and is discharged through the light phase outlet at the top of the separator.
    5. The heavier liquid phase moves towards the periphery of the bowl and is discharged through the heavy phase outlet at the bottom of the separator.

Applications:

High-speed disc stack separators are suitable for various industries and applications, including:

    1. Oil and gas industry: Separating oil and water from produced water, refinery streams, and petrochemical processes.
    2. Food and beverage processing: Separating cream from milk, removing fat from oils, and clarifying fruit juices and wine.
    3. Pharmaceutical industry: Separating and purifying immiscible liquid mixtures in the production of drugs and biologics.
    4. Marine industry: Separating oil and water in bilge water treatment and fuel purification on ships.
    5. Industrial wastewater treatment: Removing oil and other immiscible contaminants from industrial wastewater streams.

Disc stack separators are known for their high separation efficiency, compact design, and ability to handle large volumes of liquid mixtures. They are essential for various liquid-liquid separation applications across multiple industries.

When it comes to high-speed disc stack separators, there are three main configurations designed for specific liquid-liquid separation tasks: purification, clarification, and concentration. While all disc stack separators operate on the same basic principle of using centrifugal force to separate two immiscible liquids, they differ in design and operation to optimize performance for each application.

    1. Purification disc stack separators:

Purification disc stack separators are designed to remove small amounts of contaminating liquid from a main liquid stream. Key features include:

        • High disc stack density to provide a large separation surface area
        • Optimized disc angle and spacing for efficient separation
        • Hermetic design to prevent air entrainment and oxidation

Common applications for purification disc stack separators include the removal of water from lube oil, the separation of trace oil from wastewater, and the purification of solvents.

    3. Concentration disc stack separators:

Concentration disc stack separators are designed to recover a valuable liquid component from a mixture of two immiscible liquids. Key features include:

        • Optimized disc stack configuration for high concentration efficiency
        • Adjustable paring disc to control the concentration ratio
        • Hermetic design to prevent product degradation

Concentration disc stack separators are used in applications such as the recovery of high-value oils from process streams, the concentration of essential oils, and the separation of solvents from extract mixtures.

    2. Clarification disc stack separators:

Clarification disc stack separators are used to remove solid particles and droplets of an immiscible liquid from a main liquid stream. Key features include:

        • Special disc designs to handle solids and prevent clogging
        • Adjustable paring disc to control the separation efficiency
        • Optional solids ejection ports for continuous operation

Clarification disc stack separators are used in applications such as the clarification of fruit juices, wine, and beer, as well as the treatment of industrial wastewater containing oil and solids.

Our high-speed disc stack separators can be tailored for purification, clarification, or concentration applications by optimizing design parameters such as disc stack configuration, disc angle and spacing, feed and discharge arrangements, and rotational speed. Understanding the differences between these configurations is crucial for selecting the appropriate disc stack separator for a specific liquid-liquid separation task.
