Decanter Centrifuge Working Principle
The decanter centrifuge operates on a simple yet effective three-step process:
1. Feed Intake:
The mixture to be separated is fed into the rotating bowl of the centrifuge through a central pipe. As it enters, it’s immediately subjected to powerful centrifugal forces.
2. Solids Discharge:
Heavier solid particles are forced to the bowl wall by centrifugal force. A screw conveyor, rotating at a slightly different speed than the bowl, continuously transports these solids to one end of the bowl where they are discharged.
3. Liquid Discharge:
The clarified liquid, being lighter, forms an inner layer inside the bowl. It flows to the opposite end of the solids and is discharged through outlets, completing the separation process. This continuous process allows for efficient solid-liquid separation across a wide range of applications and industries.
